Onryo

Vengeful Female Danger 5 of 5 · Lethal
Form
Vengeful ghost (onryō)
Origin
The onryō of Japan: a soul bound by rage — classically a wronged woman — whose grudge curses places and bloodlines across generations; Sadako and Oiwa are its modern and classical faces, and it is the East Asian pole of the vengeful-female radiation that Kuntilanak anchors in Indonesia.
Behavior
Curse transmission through places, objects and recordings in modern forms.
Deterrents and vulnerabilities
Exorcism rarely works in the tales; the grudge must be answered or outlived.
